With several decades of experience in the medical field, Dr. Richard Paczynski’s unique set of skills are sure to round out our leadership team perfectly. Coupled with his expertise in the field, his passion and dedication to helping others restore their health and well-being comes before all.
Dr. Paczynski (Dr. P) is originally from Niagara Falls, New York, but has recently relocated to the Stroudsburg area to come on board with Brookdale. Dr. P is an alumnus of the Mayo Medical School, graduating in 1989, and completed his residency at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
Prior to his appointment at Brookdale, he practiced neurology and general medicine in the Harrisburg area for the past 15 years. With an extensive background in chemical dependency and detoxification, his practice also encompassed addiction medicine and medical toxicology. Other appointments include Medical Director of an Acute Stroke program at Holy Spirit, Geisinger Hospital and Medical Director of Neurology at Health South Hospital. Dr. Paczynski is a member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, the American Academy of Neurology, and the American Medical Informatics Association.
Outside of work, Dr. P. enjoys wilderness travel and spending time with family. When time permits, he also enjoys working with colored glass, metal, and plaster, as he was trained in the visual arts before medical school.
In regards to his primary goal at Brookdale Recovery, Dr. P says, “I want to assist people in their recovery by providing state-of-the-art medical care in a therapeutic environment. Our patients have to do most of the work themselves, but I want to do everything possible to make them feel comfortable, well listened to, and hopeful when they first enter treatment. Part of that is medication, part is education, and the other, very important part, is just being there for people who have often been very alone.”
